The Ombudsman met with the Head of the ODIHR/OSCE Observation Mission for the Referendum in Uzbekistan
The Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova met with Ambassador Albert Jonsson, Head of the ODIHR/OSCE Referendum Observation Mission in Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the main activities of the ombudsman institution and the ongoing reforms in the country and the participation of our compatriots in them were discussed. It was noted that the Authorized Person for Human Rights actively participated in these processes and made his proposals, and most of them were taken into account. In particular, Article 98 of the updated Constitution provides that the institution of the Ombudsman has the right to make proposals to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a legislative initiative.

It is noted that at present the Ombudsman and his regional representatives, together with representatives of civil society, are monitoring the creation of the necessary additional conditions for voting by persons with disabilities.

Also, under the leadership of the Ombudsman, monitoring visits are carried out to ensure the right to vote of persons held in closed institutions with limited freedom of movement and who have the right to participate in a referendum.

During the conversation, the parties exchanged views on working with citizens' appeals and the issues raised in them, strengthening cooperation in ensuring human rights.
