The Ombudsman met with the Chairman of the Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men of the Grand National Assembly (Parliament) of Turkey
On July 8, 2023, Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova met with the Chairman of the Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (Parliament) Chigdem Erdogan Atabek.

The guest, who visited our country to observe the process of early presidential elections in Uzbekistan, was informed about the reforms carried out in recent years to protect human rights and freedoms and ensure gender equality. In particular, it was emphasized that on April 30 this year, for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, on the basis of a referendum, the highest legal document, the New Constitution, was adopted, in which the principles of human rights were raised to the highest value and this document was enriched with a number of new norms related to gender equality and ensuring women's rights.

In addition, it was noted that most of the proposals of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) to ensure human rights and interests were accepted when the New Constitution was adopted.

Also during the conversation, an exchange of views took place on the work of the Ombudsman Institute with citizens' appeals, monitoring visits to closed institutions with limited freedom of movement to prevent torture, cooperation with representatives of civil society institutions and non-governmental non-profit organizations.

The Chairman of the Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (Parliament) highly appreciated the comprehensive reforms being carried out in our country, including steps to ensure gender equality. She said that the friendly relations between the Presidents of the Republics of Uzbekistan and Turkey lay the foundation for strengthening cooperation in all areas between the two countries.

The guest also noted that the activities of the Ombudsman are very extensive, especially since the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan stipulates that the institution of the Ombudsman has the right to make legislative proposals to the lower house of parliament as a legislative initiative, which is a sign of expanding the powers of the Ombudsman.

The meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere.
