Official statement of the Ombudsman on the situation with torture

The news about the death of a detainee in the Department of Internal Affairs of the city of Tashkent spread on social networks. It is said that 2 persons suspected of kidnapping were detained in Tashkent, one of them died.

This situation was taken under the control of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) and the Ombudsman's control letter was sent to the Prosecutor General's Office.

The punishment for the crime is inevitable, but this punishment must be imposed by the court. Uzbekistan takes a firm stance against torture.

The Ombudsman strongly condemns any action against humanity. If the situation is confirmed during the investigation, the perpetrators will be legally and inevitably brought to justice.
