Main areas of activity
The following are the main fields of activity of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman):
- Handling complaints on violations of human rights and freedoms, taking relevant measures to restore violated rights;
- Assisting in improvement of human rights legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan and in bringing it in accordance with provisions of international law;
- Raising awareness of population on the issues of human rights and freedoms, forms and methods of their protection;
- Presenting Annual Activity Report before the Legislative Chamber and Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
- At his own initiative and within the scope of his terms of reference, taking relevant measures when information on alleged violations of human rights and freedoms becomes available;
- Carrying out the monitoring of human rights and addressing recommendations and suggestions on the improvement of activities in the field of securing human rights and freedoms to the state bodies, enterprises, institutions, organizations and officials, following the results of undertaken monitoring activities;
- Development of international cooperation in the area of human rights.
