The issues of strengthening the cooperation of the Ombudsman with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights were discussed
As is known during a visit to Uzbekistan, a delegation led by the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Matteo Mecacci the metting with representatives of the Senate and the Legislative Chamber, the Central Election Commission, the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held.

On April 29, the members of the delegation met with the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova.

During the meeting with the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman),  the guest was informed about the ongoing reforms in the field of human rights in the country and their effectiveness, improving the legal framework and expanding the powers of the Ombudsman, as well as the tasks assigned to him to prevent torture, including monitoring visits closed institutions under the National Preventive Mechanism.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the initiatives planned by the Ombudsman in 2021 to ensure human rights, as well as made an analysis of the appeals addressed to the Ombudsman in 2020.

During the meeting, which took place in an open and friendly atmosphere, ODIHR Director M. Mecacci expressed support for the ongoing reforms in the field of human rights.
