Biography of S.Sh.RASHIDOVA
the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman)
Sayora Sharafovna Rashidova was born on August 2, 1943 in the city of Djizak (Republic of Uzbekistan) in the family of a prominent statesperson and writer Sh.Rashidov.
Having graduated from the high school #43 in Tashkent city, in 1960 she started her studies the Faculty of Chemistry of the Moscow State University. After her graduation S.Sh.Rashidova worked as a trainee researcher at the Topchiev’s Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis of the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation. She completed postgraduate studies at the Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Then, after successful presentation of her doctoral dissertation in 1971 she worked as a Junior Research Fellow, then Senior Research Fellow, then Head of Laboratory in the Chemical Institute at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Starting from 1979 she acted as the Head of Polymer Chemistry, and since 1981 – as the Director of the Institute of Polymer Chemistry and Physics at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
S.Sh.Rashidova is an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. She holds a PhD in Chemistry. She is a professor. She trained more than 20 Doctors of Sciences and Candidates of Science. She is the author of over 300 scientific publications, a number of monographs, as well as 20 certificates of authorship.
S.Rashidova takes active part in public life of the Republic, acting as the President of “Olima” Women-Scholars Association. She was elected as the deputy of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan of the first (1995-1999) and second (2000-2004) convocations.
In December 1995 S.Rashidova was elected as the Authorized Person for Human Rights at the Session of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan by its first convocation.
In February 2000 S.Rashidova was elected as the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) for the second term.
S.Rashidova was elected as the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) for a five-year term by the Legislative Chamber in March 2005 and by the Senate in May 2005.
S.Sh.Rashidova proactively participates at many international forums on human rights. S. Rashidova is the author of over 100 publication in the field of human rights. She is the author and editor-in-chief of a number of compilations, such as “World Ombudsmen”, “Ombudsman in Uzbekistan”, “Human Rights Monitoring”, “Human rights protection in Uzbekistan” etc. She is a member of editorial board of a number of magazines, such as “Democracy and human rights”, “Public opinion. Human rights” and so on.
